Ok, for Covalent bonding, two or more atoms will share an electron or a pair of electrons to fulfill the Octet-Rule. Some may not fulfill this such as PentaFluorine. Covalent bonds share electrons. Ionic bonds give electrons to fulfill the Octet-Rule such
as a metal and a non-metal. All salts are considered Ionic because they consist of a metal and a non-metal that giveaway electrons such as Sodium, which is a Cation with a +1 charge because the Alkaline metals want to reach properties similar to a noble gas.

Covalent Bonds Share and can be polar.
Ionic Bonds give away electrons to fulfill Octet-Rule(full shell). They consist of a +Cation and a -anion. Such as Potassium-Chloride.

In covalent bonds such as H-H in H2, the two electrons are shared between the atoms. In ionic bonds like Na+ Cl- of NaCl, the sodium losdes an electron completely to the chlorine.

covalent bonding is a bond normally between two non metals . in covalent bonds elements share valence electrons to satisfy the octet rule(total of 2 electrons for hydrogen and helium, 8 for every other element). In ionic bond elements(atoms) either gain or lose valence elctrons to satisfy the octet rule.

Basically ionic bonding is when element swap electrons to get a full shell e.g sodium and chlorine, the sodium wants to lose an electron for a full shell and chlorine wants to gain one. So sodium loses one and gives it to the chlorine this means the sodium becomes positively charged and the chlorine becomes negatively charged and therefore they become attracted together.

Covalent bonding is simple for the elements bonding to get full shells there share electrons.

Covalent bond is formed by the mutual sharing of one or more electron between two or more substances.e.g. H2 molecule.
While ionic bond is formed by the transfer of one or more electron to the other. It means one can donate the electron while the other can accept it. e.g. NaCl

Its all about the electrons. Ionc involves "stealing" an electron, one atom takes from another.

Covalent is all about sharing, the atoms both share the electron.

Hope that helps.
