Do I really need a swim instructor to learn to swim? Can someone give me some guidence on how to learn to swim ?

You can probably teach yourself if you are an adult. There are books and videos that can help. Mostly you need to gain comfort and confidence in the water and make sure you teach yourself in a safe environment where there is help if you need it.

Swimming for an adult is basically the same learning process as a child. Float, blow bubbles, put your face in, learn to kick, learn to paddle and go from there.

Check your local library for instructional videos and books, there are plenty in there!

Jump into the deep end of the pool.

Then I would suggest kicking your feet and moving your arms.
