I'm not a distance swimmer. My asthma can't handle it. And I can't stand doing flip-turns when I'm swimming laps. I do flip turns for competition when I only swim two laps, but if I'm swimming laps at practice, I get winded if I do flip turns. If I do touch and go, I'm fine, but my coaches keep getting on my case telling me to always do flip turns.

tell your parents to talk to the coach. if he still tells you to do the flip turns then quit and find a nother team that has a coach that understands you and your asthma! good luck!!

Get an appointment with your doctor. If your asthma medication is not doing its job well enough perhaps you need to reapproach what meds you take. You should be able to control your asthma in a way that allows you to participate in your daily activities.

If your asthma is so out of control that you find yourself getting winded that easily and your medication can't be changed than maybe you need to stop swimming. The last thing you want to do is give yourself an asthma attack.

As for your coach, he wants you to swim as hard and efficiently as you are able. If you can't handle the practices set forth for your team, find a team that's a bit less competitive and doesn't require proper turns every lap. There are plenty of less intense programs you can join, maybe look into something on a more mild level.

Good luck!

Your coaches should definitely know about your asthma, if they don't already. If they do know already, maybe they need reminding. If that doesn't work, I would talk to a parent/guardian about it and have them talk to your doctor and coaches.
