I have been called a racist pretty much every time I take a position opposed to the liberal position.

Remember the old saying if the facts are on your side pound home the facts. If they are not, pound on the desk.

Calling people racists, sexists or homophobes is just another way of pounding on the desk. If you are a liberal, you are often left with little else.

I'm not against illegal immigration, so no, I haven't.

That said, some people are against it for racist reasons, and some are not. I'll happily debate the truth, but the fact is that I have heard it all already. Truthfully, though, I have not heard a single non-racist argument against it that made any sense and was not based on ignorance or selfishness.... except one. Some people against illegal immigration simply are against the "illegal" part. It is illegal, and that is why they think it is wrong. That is a fair argument... BUT- if that is the only problem, then we should make it clear and simple what is required to enter the country legally. Currently fewer than 3% of American citizens even know what steps are necessary to become a citizen, so how can you expect poor immigrants who cannot even afford a computer to figure it out? Some people also complain that they do not speak English, but how many of these people volunteer to teach them? I happen to be a volunteer tutor for speakers of other languages, and I know that most programs in the country are suffering from a gross lack of volunteers to help teach people to speak English. Furthermore, if it is only the "illegal" part that bugs you, then you should have supported the immigration bill that provided help for people who wanted to become legal. Did you? Most people did not.

Perhaps you are one of the people who does not have a racist reason to be against illegal immigration. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt, and I take my hat off to you, then! But what are you doing to fix the problem, then? Think about it.

Yes, I have. And it makes no sense! I mean, *I* need a passport to get into other countries; what makes this issue any different? I'm definitely not against the people; I really feel for them and their horrible situation. But it's up to THEIR government and country to right things, NOT ours. Of course we are lucky, and we have privileges to things we just take for granted, but it still doesn't make it right to enter another country illegally (Right, like I could waltz into England with no passport- actually when you're at the airport they check for passports.) I mean, I really DO understand the problems in Mexico- I live about 80 miles away from Tijuana. I've seen the skinny children, and homeless people selling chiclets. No way would I want to live there. But then again, where I live, in my apartment complex, NONE of my neighbors speak English. I had to go to the hospital and my phone wasn't working, and I had to mime what was wrong with me, and if I could use the neighbor's phone. If you're living in America, at least make an effort to learn English. Now, WE have to learn Spanish. This doesn't make me a racist AT ALL. It's just a question of what's right and what isn't. Entering another country illegally, is just wrong, period. And it doesn't make you a racist to believe it. Exactly; it's easier for some people to just scream "racist!" at you than listen to differing viewpoints.

Sure. It's easy for people to attack you for being racist if you're against illegal immigration.

It's harder for them to explain why people who are here illegally shouldn't be persecuted.

It's a tricky issue to be sure, but let's not lose sight of the fact there are illegal immigrants of all races in the USA.

The race card is played so much I have a hard time even taking it seriously anymore. It's like the boy who cried wolf. Cry racism all the time and when it really happens I won't believe you.

I wouldn't call is racism, you're a hyprocrite.

As a person of indigenous ancestry, I find it ironic that so many people forget that their descendents were at one time immigrants themselves.
