a pair of cherry barbs or both female or both males for my current 10 gallon tank with 2 cories and 2 cherry barbs?

It wouldn't really matter than much, but if you have the choice a group of more females is better usually. But with cherry barbs it's not that important.

Yes, that seems like a good idea, all barbs just about get along so this will be fine for your fish tank.

barbs and the cory's just so you have a few different types of fish
