Some say diesal is better and other's say the opposite. Right now i'm driving a petrol car and am planning on buying a new car now. i saw a puegeot 206 at the garage today, but it's a diesal, very confused as to buy it or not. So please tell me which do u prefer, petrol or diesal and why?

thanks to all answers in advance!

Diesals are not slow..........unless you drive around with your eyebrows touching and behaving like a pillock.
The fuel is a bit dearer, but you do get that back in the extra miles per gallon.
Servicing is more expensive.
The fuel stinks if it gets on your hands, and the pumps at the garage always have deisal spills on the floor - so it'll get on your shoes too.
Easier to drive, as the extra torque from the engine means clutch control (Like a 3 point turn) is far easier. You could do a 3 pointer whilst leaving the engine on tickover.
Power steering is probably a must, the engines are heavy and can really make the front feel heavy when steering at slow speeds. Give one a test drive.

I don't understand why people buy Diesel versions of small cars. A petrol engined 1.4 Peugeot 206 will still do 40-50mpg, be much cheaper to service, is much nicer to drive with about 60kg less hanging over the front wheels, and won't sound like a box of spanners being dropped down a concrete stairwell when it's idling. Toxic emissions from Diesels are also far worse than catalysed petrol engines.

In to days economic climate a diesel is a better buy. The reason to buy or not depends on your circumstances.
How many miles do you drive per week, if you only drive one or two hundred a week the extra cost is not worth it, unless you are into the environment and you want to help save the planets resources ?
Are you buying a new car?
New diesels are as good as or better than petrol cars for normal every day performance.
Second hand with a full service history and low mileage are a better buy than new, unless you want the 'experience' of a new car.

Turbo-diesel.
Better fuel economy and torque delivery than a petrol.
Much better performance than a non-turbo diesel.

51% of new car buyers in Europe last year bought diesel cars.

i would recommend going to the WhatCar? website as you get to compare cars, if you like a quick engine, ask the salesman if it is an HDI engine as they are quicker than normal diesel and turbo diesel, unfortunately they are still quite noisy when stationary.

Petrol for me, if you dont do loads of miles why have a diesel you pay more for it. and they are slow apart from the big engine ones. if you like small cars get a petrol one.
