I think it would have to be Susan Lucci who plays Erica Kane on All My Children.
Susan was nominated for an Emmy 19 years in a row and didn't win year after year. Finally - she won and she couldn't believe it. She became very well known for this.
Susan's also made several movies for TV - usually shown on Lifetime Tv. And she has a cosmetics line and clothing/accessory line that she sells on QVC.
So her face isn't just on a soap opera. She's also been on Broadway in the musical Annie Get Your Gun.
She appears on Regis & Kelly and has subbed for Kelly. She also appears with Regis at casinos/hotels with a song & dance act....just occasionally.

Without a doubt, it's Susan Lucci who has played Erica Kane on All My Children since January 5, 1971. In addition to that, her makeup and jewelry lines, she's also recognized as the most nominated actress for an Emmy without winning (it took 19 times). In an article I read back in the late 90's, she was the highest paid soap actor at that time (probably still is) at $5,000 per episode. I wish I knew what that figure is now. In fact, I wish I had that figure now.
