John E, I didnt chose my name, and I have never had any abuse over it either, so don't think because my name isn't that common that I can't not like another name. How can someone called JOHN comment on an unusual name anyway?

You should tell your pal she shouldnt give a damn what anyone else thinks! As long as her and her partner are happy with it, it's noone elses buisness! My daughter's called Willow and I received a lot of grief for it before she was born. She's 4 now though and I get endless comments on what a beautiful name she has and how unusual etc. You see, once there's a face to the name even the most outlandish names seem fitting. I haven't told anyone the names chosen for my next baby (due in 2 months!) as I don't want any influences! Oh, and incidentally I think Meadow is a lovely name choice. Very feminine.

Choosing a name that your comfortable with is hard, as soon as I knew that me and my partner were having a baby and it was a boy, I started to get a list together of all the names I liked as it was me that was given the responsibility of naming him and it was also my partners choice too as she had to like the name as well.

Meadow is not to my liking and yes it is a bit hippie, new age sounding but its the parents choice, they have to live with it as much as the child and the distinct possibility that the child will be taunted or subjected to jokes or name calling.

As its your friend, it wont matter too much because you will... Grow to like it ;)

I like it, like you said it totally up to her. There a little girl called Meadow in my son swimming class, she has 3 sisters and 6 brothers, dont know all their names but 2 of the girls called Honey and Kitty-Willow.

Im not a fan of strange names for babies as it may not be fair to the child they will grow up to be, but meadow does sound nice to the ear.

I'm an old hippy myself and weird names were usually for the "lames". I agree with the sentiment in some of the other answers, that normal names are the best. Anything else nowadays is just being "trendy". Be an original.

Hope her surname is not Lark ,Sweet or any other name that follows Meadow to form another word. I like it it is pretty The child can always shorten it and may be call her self May (Spelt Mea) It is an unusual nature sounding name like Sky ,Storm, Summer. As you say it is your friends child and her choice.

I went to school with a girl with that name. I never heard of anyone teasing her because of her name. In fact, she was quite popular. Meadow is a lot better than some of the stupid names people are choosing these days.

Paul Walker from The Fast And The Furious has a daughter of the same name its OK but there are better but it could be a whole lot worse with what you hear these days.

once i went in to a local shop where there was a woman with a boy about 2 and girl about 4 and she said come on Buffy, Rylie wants to go home and i thought to myself she is a Buffy fan! naming her after Buffy and the Little boy after one of Buffy's boyfriend in the show!

I think it's a beautiful name. It's so much better than being called something boring like Sharon, Jane or Tracey [no offence to people with those names] - but there are more than enough girls called that already. Having a name like Meadow will make her daughter feel special. :-)

Well, I've definitely heard worse. As far as bad names go, Meadow is one of the least awful out there.
