I remember that big fight they had a few years back against the world wildlife fundation and the right to use the domain wwf.com. Now today we all know what happen, they lost and were forced to changed their name from World Wrestling Federation to World Wrestling Entertainement. Now anyone can explain to me, if it was so important, why does WWF.COM is a wrestling site ? World wildlife fundation is not even using the domain name ! I know they are using the WWF.ORG name but they should have bought the .COM too, doesnt make sense to have a wrestling site at WWF.COM after all they went through to keep their name.

In 2000, the World Wildlife Fund, an enviromental organization now called the World Wide Fund for Nature, sued the WWE (which was then the World Wrestling Federation, or WWF) for violating a 1994 agreement which had limited the permissable use of the WWF intials overseas, mainly in merchandising & the British Courts agreed with the organization that the WWE, which was then Titan Sports, used the WWF intials without permission. On May 5, 2002, the comapny quietly changed all its references on its site from wwf.com to wwe.com & the next day, the company released a press release by announcing they were changing the name from World Wrestling Federation, Inc. to Wolrd Wrestling Entertainment, Inc., or WWE for short.

The WWF.com domain was already taken. As a non-profit organization, the WWF obviously wasn't going to use that domain and felt that it would be more cost effective to monitor its use rather than buying it from McMahon.

The WWF had to change to WWE because of Freaking World Wildlife Fund. C'mon, they should be more creative instead of stealing another company's name. World Wrestling Entertainment should have kept their old name. ;)
