Check through US Air. Since Charlotte is a hub for them, you should be able to get a direct flight and a pretty decent rate.
Also, it's cheaper to travel to Vegas during the week instead of a Friday or Saturday.

October can be a more expensive month to travel to Vegas. It is the busiest month for conventions and therefore higher rates at hotels. You'll really have to shop around to find a "good deal".
