I've had leeches before. You just rip them off. They are sticky but it doesnt hurt much. Just a pinch where they were sucking. YOu dont even notice them when you get them on you.

The most common enquiry regarding leeches concerns repellents. It is unknown whether a specific preparation is commercially available but there is a plethora of tried and tested, but unproven leech-protection ideas. These include a lather of bath soap smeared on exposed parts and left to dry, applications of eucalyptus oil, tropical strength insect repellent, lemon juice and impenetrable barriers of socks and pantyhose

The best way to remove them is to make them dry out since they breath through their skin. Salt is a great method, you rub salt on them. Pouring rubbing alchohol on them also makes them detach real quick.
Pulling them off is okay, but can hurt and rips your skin. Unles they are tiny, I wouldn't recommend pulling them off.

I remember in 'Nam they were six to eight inches long. They reminded me of a hot dog so much when they were engorged with blood IE: your boots when you pulled them off, that I can't eat a hot dog to this day.

Some guys, myself included had and still have scars from them.

pour alchol on the leech, they would come off....you also can use salt (mix with warm water)
I wouldnt burn them, they are good creatures...medical use them to help suck up blood when things are not healing right....

I would try to pour alcohol on it as oppose to burning it because you could potentially burn yourself and your house. Bug spray, lemon juice or salt.
