Will a GYN be able to suit the needs a family doctor could advise me on, while also helping me with women's health needs?

IMO, you should have both. Your GYN will be able to help you with your women's health needs but a GP knows more about how to keep you healthy by going for a physical every year and having blood taken. I don't think a GYN would be able to do that for you.

gynecologist specialize, many of them would not have a clue how to take care of generalized health needs. For primary care, go with a general practitioner.
