Read The Friendly Manual (RTFM) for your laptop.

Then, re-post with make and model if you need more help.

Since you didn't state the make and model, I will have to guess...go to Start/Control Panel/System click on Device Manager and look there for any wireless devices.
if you have an internal wireless modem it should be there, if not an external wireless card is not that expensive.
Note: on some laptops there is a switch to turn the internal wireless card on and off (if I had a nickle for every time it was just a matter of flipping the switch...) I don't know where yours might be or if you have one but they are small and hard to find if you don't know they are there usually on the front or left side of the case.
Good Luck!

Click Start - Control Panel.
In the Control Panel window, click System.
In the System Properties window, click the Hardware tab.
Click the Device Manager button.
Look for Network Adapters in the list of devices.
If there is a plus sign (+), click the plus sign to expand that list of network adapters.
You will see a list of all of the network cards that your laptop has installed.

if your laptop has a wireless card, you need to know what version of 802.11 it is running. and if that is compatable with your router. Also you need to add your access code to the laptop so it will join the wireless LAN.
do you know if the router has joined the ISP network?

I agree with the above, check the device manager for the hardware. Also let us know the make and model.

you should have researched this before you bought a router. not all routers work with all cards. and if your laptop doesn't have a card, then you can buy a receiver that plugs into your usb port. JUST MAKE SURE THEY ARE COMPATIBLE WITH EACH OTHER BEFORE BUYING!!!!!
