My Daughter's best friend is called GEMMA and there were 2 or 3 other jemma/gemma s in her year they would have born 1986/1987. I also know one born 1980 I like the name . shortened to Gem/Jem it sound like a precious jewel . As it theparent is saying you are special to me and I treasure you. Well thats my thoughts on the name Gemma/Jemma

LOL, Jem, she's truly outrageous...do you remember the Jem cartoon? You might be too young...she was a really cool rock star. Anyway...
I think Jemma/Gemma is a darling name- sounds sort of English to me.

I don't really like it - too close to Emma, which has become waaaay too popular, and besides, as someone else said, there was a pop-singing cartoon character (and equivalent doll) by the name of Jem in the 80's. I thought it was a silly, commercial-inspired name back then, and I still think so today.
But what matters is what YOU like. I assume, after all, that this is your baby!

Jemma would be my choice of the above options - it is so much nicer to have a 'J' name than a 'G' name. Still allows for shortening to Jem & not to uncommon or too common.

I always see this as a more British name- I've never met any child in the states with the name, spelt either way. It's pretty, but I think I prefer the J spelling.

It is ok, but it reminds me of a barbie doll that was out when I was a kid! Her name was gem! Names are a personal thing so do what you think is right. Personally though, it seems to me like you may as well name her barbie. Sorry!

Its a nice name.. Try writing it with the other names you are considering and think about your child at school and learning to spell the name you pick out.. Sometimes teachers cant even pronounce the names correctly at first.. Alot to think about.. Congratulations..

Jem reminds me of Aunt Jemima, as in pancake mix.
