i suffered from bullimia for a number of years and i never actually went to therapy or had any kind of professional help for the illness
it became a way of life for me and i didnt even know i had a problem until my sister pointed it out to me and even then i denied it. i cannot really say what it was that cured me or whether it was just that my life changed direction. when i was pregnant with my daughter i just realised that i was doing something that was going to harm my baby and i think that was all it really took for me to change. although i honestly dont remember making an actual decision to change, i think i just woke up.
if you feel your therapy is not working then maybe you should change your therapist rather than give up on therapy altogether, but an eating disorder is a way of life and i think you need to make some alterations in your life before you can move on from this
i wish you luck xx

I think you should first identify why you "are sick of therapy." Do you not like your therapist? Are you frustrated because your condition is not improving? Do you really want to get better? If it is something you feel you can discuss with your therapist, go for it! The more honest you are with him/her and yourself, the better. Don't lose hope, you will get better if you truly want to. I say that b/c not everyone wants to get better. Some people don't want to get better b/c getting better "might mean getting fat." Just remember, you should aim for being healthy. Being too thin, too fat or bulimc is not healthy. I bet you have a beautiful smile. If you're not careful, bulimia can physically affect your teeth (amongst many other parts of your body). Good luck! I know you'll be successful in your endeavors! :)

well, you will change when you want to. alright. oh so you are sick of your treatment, well give up being bulimic and your treatment ends. good deal isnt it. or you can go day in and day out stuffing yourself with laxatives until you are 100 years old. how does it feel to know that is the life you are planning to take. is it worth being bulimic over. heres a thing, i heard that the more drugs people take the less effective they the drugs become to you might need to double the dose of laxatives every 10 years. you can be drinking a bottle of laxatives a meal someday. oh boy, that must tastes good. you probably go to the bathroom every so often like 20 times a day. what a way to live. probably need special diapers too. theres also this thing when you have used laxatives for like 50 years, your intestines wont function well and well pretty much the doo doo just drops on the floor as you walk. my god, is that the way you want to live? chugging down a bottle of laxatives for a meal and having doo doo fall to the floor because you dont have control over how much to come out. how about having to do so in the streets, you probably get a doo doo trail to your house. how about being seen in public drinking a bottle of laxative as a meal. all those people eyeing you like you are some psychotic person. tell me is that worth being bulimic about? Your life, your choice, You can NOW decide right now to stop being bulimic and start taking care of yourself so you can have the body you want. weight is just a number, we weight differently on a different planet. I rather have a woman who has a sexy body than one whos constantly counting her pounds cause i didnt go out with her because she weights 120 pounds. if i went for the weight alone well i could have gotten myself a sack of stones that totalled 120 pounds instead of someone loving me.

Hi Claire, i am recovering from bulimia...about 4 months sober at the moment but i still have a lot of issues and see a counsellor as my eating is still not as good as it should be. I wouldn't advise stopping your therapy, is it CBT? It doesn't sound like you feel as though is is helping you though and if you completely feel that way then, if i was you i would return to my gp and tell them your concerns and ask to see someone else....some therapists are better at helping certain conditions and individuals, you don't have to stick with her if she/he is not working for you but don't just stop, go see your doctor first. its great that you have recognised you have a problem and are seeking help, thats something to be proud of...you've already made positive steps to changing so keep going! best of luck!

first of all your not sick, i know what your going through, you just need to change your eating
im a 24 year old guy who was anorexic and bolemic, i used to weigh about 18 and a half stone, and wasnt as fat as i shuda been cause i did loads of weights. it all went on during my final years in school, then in college i decided to lose the weight, it wasnt cause of women, that was never a problem :)
just knew there was something wrong.
So i started basically not eating(starving myself), then every few days i would stuff myself with something crap and feel terrible. then i discovered how to throw up........ uh oh! and it all went from there, i could eat as much as i liked and actually lose weight.
you can understand why people do it. my weight dropped down to 9 stone(same weight as my sister). and everyone said i was way too skinny, everyone..... i felt weak all the time. i fixed it by eating unlimited amounts of fruit and vegetables, and still do to this day, now i have a 2pack (not really interested in a six pack) and eat pretty much only fruit and veg and my weight stays the same no matter how much fruit i eat. but its only natural to want to be skinny, its all the crap we eat nowadays, starchy high carb foods(oh yea and ive completely cut sugar outo my eating), try some smoothies or veg soups. delicious and all u can eat!
feel free to contact me, i chat to lots of people going through what you are, and am here to help

Please don't stop therapy! You know that you have a problem and wanting to get help for it means that your success rate is higher. That's the first steps in becoming healthy. Keep up the therapy and tell your therapist EVERYTHING. Best wishes!

i bet you don't have a decent answer for either of them. I reeli hope you beat your problem and good luck in the future.

You will get better.. you didn't become Bulimic overnight.. it was years of influence on your thought and self image... so it won't be cured overnight either.. stay in therapy, they will help you.

Don't stop the therapy, please. You'll get there, but like anything worth doing, it just takes time. You will change, trust me.
