Build your own, it's easy. Mine is a piece of 1/4" plywood with a piece of 1 X 2 to raise the back edge and it has space for a mouse pad, too.

I did a google search for: build a laptop stand

and found this example:

It should be easy to modify the plan to suit your needs.

It is more energy efficient to put your computer on standby. It's kind of like a car people waste more gas turning off there car (for a short period of time) then turning it right back on. Like say you are at your house and all your going to do is run in and out, maybe someone is even in the car, instead of turning off the car leave it on to save your gas. The same with a computer. I would say for your mini-stand by mode it's ok but it's better to do the full stand by. This is my opinion and I do this with my laptop. But if you know for sure that you are not going on your computer then turn it off. Good Luck

Or put a pin on the laptop's seat.. har har

Seriously, though, have you heard of a table, they're really very good.

They sell these in the UK on Ebay for about 25 pounds. Some have a built in cooling fan.

put the laptop on your knee or put it on the table with a book under the back of it.
