"Sir, I love your daughter very much. We have been going out now for (time) now, and I want to ask for her hand in marriage. I have the utmost confidence that we would be a successful team and life long companions. I am a man of modest means but I have very promising prospects in the future. It would mean a great deal to me if I have your blessing."

1. Make eye contact with him and keep it. You are a man talking to a man.
2. Tell him you love her.
3. Remind him of the time you have invested in her. That your not just some fling.
4. Show confidence that the marriage will be life long.
5. Don't be a braggart but assure him that his daughter won't be living in the streets.
6. Ask for his blessing not his permission. His daughter's hand isn't his to give (she isn't his property), but it is his right to bless the union.

I think that is a great thing. Because really she will be going from her fathers covering to yours so its a great thing to ask for his daughters hand in marriage. It will show respect. And he will be in your life for a long time so i think its great. Just be sure that you all are alone not alot of other people around just be to point let him know how much you love his daughter and let him know your intent and ask him ....

Thank him for allowing you to get to know his daughter. Then just go and tell him your intentions. Tell him how you will provide for his daughter, then ask for his blessing. Also tell him when you plan on asking her. (And don't make it an anniversary, holiday, or birthday because then she will expect it. Make it on the date of your first kiss or just any day!)

He will be very impressed that you are asking him before you ask her.

Well, tell him the things that you would want to hear from someone who wants to marry your child::: that you love her, will always take care of her, never be violent with her, and then tell him of your accomplishments, job, school. Show him that you will be a good provider and then ask if he would 'allow and bless' his daughter marrying you.

Good luck

I have six daughters and what I would like to see is an NCIC background check and a complete credit report plus three years tax returns.

" As you know, your daughter and I have been dating for _____long. I am in love with her, and I will be forever, and would like to ask you if I may have her hand in marriage and to be your new son-in-law"

Stare him in the eye, and simply ask. Have her with you. I guarantee she will start crying and that will crumble his defenses. It worked for me!
