Hi there, I just looked that up on Toshiba's website like you did. The BIOS is the computer's Basic Input/Output System. This is stored on a silicon chip on the motherboard.

The website states this for the latest BIOS version 5.40:

Version 5.40 05-21-2007
Added: "Battery critical wake up" at 5% enable/disable function.
Added: When the battery capacity <= 5% in DC mode during BIOS Setup, the Critical Battery Wakeup item will be enabled to wake the computer from standby.
Corrected: Intermittent boot failures with T2060 CPUs caused by EC resets of the south bridge.

This tells me that there was a problem with their original machine level software version, which included a possible battery discharge malfunction.

This can be fixed (according to them) by installing the latest BIOS here:
http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/su/su_sc_dtlViewDL.jsp?soid=1754639&moid=1373531&rpn=PSAA5U&BV_SessionID=@@@@0609557981.1183053061@@@@&BV_EngineID=cccgaddlfmffhefcgfkceghdgngdgmn.0&ct=DL&all_docs=false

just download the self extracting zip file sa100a5v54.exe and allow it to run on your computer.

Be sure that you do not interrupt the BIOS upgrade process by powering off the computer or lauching apps, etc...

Hope this gets you fixed.

Sounds like you need a new battery. They don't last forever, and after repeated cycles of completely draining a battery it will destroy the battery's ability to hold or take a charge.

I had a similar issue with my Dell Inspiron 1100. my best advice check things in order of price. i.e. flash BIOS, check for foreign objects in the battery bay, have battery tested, check if the socket where the power cord plugs in is loose, ect. and check to see if your still under warranty!....
There is a good chance it could be the Motherboard. (sorry)
:-( Good luck!
