The original Psycho.
The movie's scary enough, but I remember that the first time I saw it. I was in junior high, and the movie was on one night. I had heard of it, but I didn't really know what it was about. No one else was home and there was nothing else to do, so I decided to watch it.
Mistake.
Late at night. Alone except for the dog. No commercials to relieve the tension (the movie was on PBS). In the middle of the move, my dog suddenly jumps up, runs to the door, and starts barking.
I was scared silly, but the movie was so good, I couldn't stop watching.
I did, however, turn on every light in the house. And kept a baseball bat next to me. And did not go to sleep that night.

The Excorcist. I had a night light, the hall light, and a street light on for about three months. Hands down the scariest movie of all time. I still can't sit down and watch it.

The Exorcist or A Haunting in Connecticut.... I had nightmares for four years about demons and stuff after watching the Exorcist. A Haunting in Connecticut is just really creepy and eerie, great horror entertainment.

event horizon. it wasn't a gore fest and it was loaded with all sorts of terrifying plot concepts. getting stranded 35,000,000 clicks from the nearest human outpost with little oxygen and no radio contact. a ship thats been gone for seven years and skipped into an alternate dimension of infinite suffering then brining some biological force back with it, playing on the nightmares of everyones past. i still love it, but the first time around it really freaked out. needless to say i will never go into space, even if invited or paid a fortune.

I haven't seen a scary horror movie yet. Believe me, I'm looking for one that scares the crap out of me. I've been looking for years! The closes I've come is Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds. But that movie was more disturbing than scary.
