Happy for the big hurt yes....will he be in the HOF...he better be hitting over .300 and at least 500 home runs is a amazing feat in any era of baseball....and cipher's answer is just off base cuz out of the 100's and 100's of players in the HOF a majority are in cuz they did one aspect of the game well and didn't do so good at another...great example is Ozzie Smith outstanding defensive player and average at best at batting

I sure am happy for the guy. He's finishing up an amazing career and I'd say he deserves to go to Cooperstown. Is 500 HR a guaranteed ticket to Cooperstown? Right now, yes, next ten years, no. Because look at the stats, (assuming all of these guys play a couple more years)
Vladdy Guerrero will hit 500, A-Rod is only 8 away from 500, Griffey is almost at 600, Sheffield will prob. hit 500, Jim Thome will hit 500, Manny will hit 500, and if Delgado plays for a couple more years, he'll hit 500. So it's a great accomplishment, but it's also a much more common milestone now.

Yours is kind of a two-part question. Am I HAPPY for him? Sure. I'm happy for anyone who achieves something outstanding. But I think that whats implied in you're comments is that he should be guaranteed enshrinement into the Hall because of that. Another poster listed all the other players who will be joining Thomas at that milestone soon, and there will be more to come. Can Frank field or run? Its a different era now, and I think that 600 has become the new 500-and if we're not quite at that point now, we will be soon, if only for these two reasons; guys all lift weights now, and modern medicine and nutrition enable players to have longer careers. Will Bagwell or McGriff be elected to the Hall? In a different era, I'm sure that they would be. Now? Maybe, but its not a lock. It will be interesting to see how baseball has evolved by the time the Big Hurt becomes eligible; I'd like to be able to travel into the future and listen to the debate concerning whether or not he deserves a place in Cooperstown.

I'm really happy for him. I'm in the same boat as you about being a fan - he also killed the Royals (well every team in the AL Central) for years and years. I don't know that the 500 homeruns is a guaranteed ticket to the HOF anymore, but he's also a career .303 hitter and he'll be enshrined in Cooperstown.

Yes, I am very happy for Thomas. I am not a particular fan of him or of his teams, but I admire how long he has been a great player. I don't think 500 HR is still an automatic ticket to Cooperstown, but I think The Big Hurt (great nickname, by the way) has a good-to-great shot at it.

It's always good to see a baseball player reach something that not many baseball players do. As of right now he is now in a club that consists of 21 players. (That is the 500 Home run club for people that don't know.) That's a great accomplishment. I'm pretty sure this club will get a lot bigger in the next 10 years but for now, its a very great thing to see. Who knows if it will get him in the Hall of Fame, i hope it does. I mean the "Big Hurt" was a great baseball player. I think having about a .300 batting average in your career and having 500 Home runs should get you in. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

I always enjoy individual accomplishments and, as you, I was happy to see Frank Thomas hit number 500. That number used to be a free pass to the HOF but not anymore. Sosa has 600 and there is a chance he won't make it. However, I believe Frank Thomas is good enough to earn his way to the HOF.

Absolutely! As a White Sox fan, I still follow Big Frank's career and I sincerely hope he does get into the HOF, he deserves it.

Sure! 500 is still great and Thomas was a really great player in his prime. Big Train (Big Hurt) accomplished what is still a fabulous major league milestone.

I'm happy for him, and I think he's going to the Hall. I actually felt bad for him that, after all his time in Chicago, he wasn't on the roster when the Sox won the Series.
