the psychologists and psychiatrists know the root cause of the psychological and social problems. but most of them confine themselves to their patients and experiments but hesitate to participate in people's struggles. THE ONLY EXCEPTION WAS ERICH FROMM, A NEO FREUDIAN,WHOSE SCATHING CRITICISM OF THE INHUMANITY OF CAPITALIST SYSTEM AND US ACTION IN VIETNAM AND HIS CAMPAIGNING FOR PEACE AND GENERAL DISARMAMENT, BOTH IN THE PRESS AND AT PUBLIC MEETINGS AND DEMONSTRATIONS, HAVE ATTRACTED THE ATTENTION OF WIDE CIRCLES OF PROGRESSIVE PEOPLE IN THE US AND ELSEWHERE.

I'd consider Dr. Spock (Baby and Childcare) author when asking this. When the children he wrote the books about began being drafted into Vietnam--he took a stand against the draft, and lost a lot of respect from the people who clung to him for years.

Psychologists and psychiatrists don't really want to publicly take sides in these issues--except, perhaps, for Social Psychologists--as that is what type of work they are in. Also, Political Scientists and Sociologists.

Because psychologists and psychiatrists are just people, like you and me. Why doesn't everyone try to work for social justice. No enough time or they can't think of anything but their own world. There is nothing wrong with that. It is the difference between hinayana and mahayana Buddhism, the Small Wheel and the Big Wheel..

You have pretty much answered your own question. Because psychology has been taken over by politics and political correctness.

BTW- Why have you hitched your cart to this socialist Erich Fromm? Nothing good has ever come from socialism while capitalism feeds the world.

The psychologist and psychiatrists do not struggle with social evils or government policies because they don't want the evil of either one to attack them.
