Actually, it is the Hylian Shield. Just proceed in the story until you complete the second tears of light quest and purify the kakariko area. Then proceed with some story events, one of which I think concerns Colin. Anyway, once all of that is done, and you must climb up death mountain for the temple (with the iron boots), Malo should have taken up the general store. Walk inside (the building with pictures of that 'baby kid' from Ordon) and you can purchase the Hylian shield for 200 rupees.
Sorry I haven't played past that since February, and I'm mixing up some events. All I know is that you can get it before the temple.
