Why? Because of the sexualization of our children, honestly. Everything is geared toward sex, and kids are being fed a line that sex is fine.
They want to have sex because "everyone is doing it." Many are from broken homes, and they have sex because that is a way to get acceptance, or they feel that someone will love them. They act out inappropriately because they are also told "as long as they are happy" they should do whatever they want. Pop psychobabble tells them they should feel good. So they do something that they want and they do not think about the possible reprecussions. We also see pregnant teenagers being celebrated--they have baby showers, we celebrate the births of their babies as if we think either of them has a halfway decent chance in life now, and we also act as if it's fine and dandy.
And, as the young lady said earlier, because they never think it will happen to them.

I don't think that these teens that get pregnant really think it will happen to them. I honestly believe that. My sister in law is 16 and she is 5 months pregnant. She is excited, but even half way through her pregnancy, she has no understanding on what it really takes to raise a child. Teens either don't think about the consequences of their actions, or they think they are invisible. I don't think we should put all the blame on the teens tho. I think that the parents have a lot to blame for what their children do, and what happens to their children. If my mother-in-law would have been a better mother, and if my father-in-law would have actually participated in raising my sister in law, maybe she would have chosen a different path. Needless to say, we fought to get custody of her, and now she lives with us, and she is going to have a huge reality check when her child gets here!

Teenagers have to deal with multiple variables that can contribute to making the choice to have sex at a young age without fully considering the consequences. A few examples include peer pressure, hormonal changes, poor impulse control (due to brain not having reached full maturity), use of drugs and/or alcohol, and lack of influence by positive adult role models through the course of their lives.
In my opinion, one of the only ways to decrease the incidence of teenage pregnancy would be for society to reset its priorities away from materialism in favor of the development of stronger family and community bonds.

listen, accidents happen. you are only 14, i know a girl that is a teen mom, shes in school and working, she is a wonderful mom, she is graduating next year. you cant stop accidents. you wouldnt be talking this way if you accidently got pregnant, and birth control and condoms dont always prevent getting pregnant. stop judging teen moms, unless you know what they go threw, they bend over backwards to keep their baby and do the best they can, its better than getting an abortion, dont you think?

I completely agree, Its mostly peer pressure and it is the "cool" thing to do, i was one of the last people in my group of friends to lose my virginity and I was teased viciously everyday for it. Now, I'm almost 21 and happily expecting, but I'm in a much better situation. If you know of kids that are having sex for sure, tell someone, not only is it unsafe, it is illegal. Your making the right decision by not having sex, its good to hear about someone younger than myself with a good head on their shoulders. I dont know what i would have done if i had gotten pregnant when i was 15, oh man, i would have ruined my like completely. But please, talk to your parents or another trusted adult about your concerns and ask them what you should do, like i said, its not only unsafe, its illegal. good luck

I guess the think they are so invincible.Or may be I get lucky and it will never happen to me.They get caught up in the heat of the moment and lose their self control.I guess society puts a lot of emphasis on having sex and how good it is,but they fail to emphasize the dangers and consequences of having sex.
I must applaud you for your maturity and your desire to wait.Don't lower your standards or change your values for anyone.Take care./

Now days no one under the age 18 should not be having sex. They need to be married and have a full time job. Cause this day and age it is too hard to do anything. Too many babies having babies lets stop.

I know I'm going to sound like an old fogey but it my day we were pretty innocent. Nowadays kids are taught about sex really early on. If you teach them how to do it - of course they're going to want to try it.
