That question has occupied mankind ever since the beginning of intelligent Man. It still has not been answered correctly. all those religions, philosophies and other mental constructs are trying but failed. The ultimate answer will be a very personal one. .....
That question is also the source of many problems we face on this planet. By that I mean all the competing religions and schemes vying for and claiming to possess the one and only truth while all others are false.
What is "We"? One has to ask what is the essence of life? I propose it is the living consciousness that never dies - ONLY the physical shell, the body dies. Nothing happens without a purpose. A purpose like a cause always has lingering effects. Those never come to an end.

80% of humanity, the religious folks, don't need to ask the meaning of life, the church tells them....the supernatural explanation. But the rest of us can't swallow religious dogma, because there's no evidence. Nobody can prove that there life after death, that people are tortured or rewarded after life or that there's invisible spirits running around.
I've come to two conclusions recently:
1. Life has no meaning
2. Life has a million meanings.
First, there's a certainty that death and annihilation awaits not only you, but the Earth in general. It's an astonomical certainty that our sun will supernova and leave the earth a burnt crisp, not to mention all the other extinction level events around the corner.
Second, the million things that give us meaning are the pleasurable experiences we can conjure up during the short period we are here on the earth, in the form of the relationships we have with our kids and other people, and the 'housekeeping' types of purposes. What i mean by that are the curing disease, ending hunger, improving literacy, reducing crime, preventing war, helping other kinds of things.
So the bottom line is, we only have a temporary meaning to life, to reduce pain and increase pleasure, other than that everything is lost to oblivion.
To be or not to be? "To be" is temporary and "not to be" is inevitable.....

Each person is a part of a huge overall plan. We are all born to serve some purpose. Many of us are never consciously aware of what that purpose is, but you die only after that purpose is fulfilled.

The purpose is to grow (evolve if you will) as a spiritual person. How you achieve that is unique to each individual. You can usually get hints as to what that purpose might be by seriously evaluating what activities truly excite and energize you. For some, it may be working with children, healing, teaching, art, music, writing, etc.

you are what you think and if that is all you can think then that is all you are.....if you are looking for meaning in life outside of yourself then you will be living for everyone else but yourself
[that is not the meaning of life]your purpose can only be found in your heart, soul and brain....wherever your brain goes your body follows so why not embrace your imagination and create a life with no end....it has only been in the last few thousand years that our life has become so shortened and it is because we are lazy mentally and are becoming more polarized and narrow minded we expect to die so we do...honestly if see no purpose then you are probably living for everyone else except yourself

A leaf floats on the water. One side of it is wet; and one is NOT! That's the purpose of life to me, that , no wonder, God started life in this world in anger; and it tells alot life ain't a piece of cake, and not pleasant basicaly. So i just have to float like that leaf........suffer....and yet reach my end safely. No matter if we have no lust to survive; no will to fight, but God has strings in His hands , tied to ur shoulders, and He'll keep on moving them till its His will..and till we end.
I hope i made sense. Because i think "Life" is a riddle. And we can only get clues, and make our own answers and go on with it. There is no final answer, found yet.
Well Wishes for all...
Take care.

Life itself doesn't have a purpose but it gives us the opportunity to choose one or more purposes if we want to.

yes we are born to die, but that is not anywhere near the purpose of life...which is to be happy, and to make others happy....and to accomplish as much as you can, meaning, learning, and doing........
