After all, the only person in the movie who didn't have white skin was the Wicked Witch! Is the movie implying that all non-white people are wicked? That's terrible!

Yes, the Tin Man wasn't white, but I'm talking about skin color and he was made of tin. And yes, the Lion, the monkeys, and Toto weren't white, either, but they weren't people. So I stand by my statement. The Wicked Witch was the only PERSON with non-white SKIN!

Calm down, the movie was wonderful. I assume you are making a joke. The Wicked Witch was a white person with a skin condition.

I guess I'm going to agree in part with everyone. I think you truly do have too much time on your hands, however, you asked the question and it is a legitimate question. Was it rascist? No. If you put it in context of the times, you would see that. You have to remember that THE WIZ is an "African American" version of the Wizard of Oz. Is that racist then? Wicked is a musical telling the other side of the story from the Wicked Witch of the West Perspective. I hate to say this, but, if you really want, every picture is rascist in some way. Not enough of this, too much of that. All you need do is look at all the frivoulous lawsuits out there.

I think you are on to something. As I recall the Wicked witch was green. As an eater of Green Giant vegetables I am appalled by the insensitivity of the people responding to this legitimate question. I am sure if you were green, as is our giant friend, you would also be disturbed. And I suppose none of you have any secret feelings of disgust over Kermit the Frog sleeping with a pig. Racism against green races has been going on for too long and needs to stop. OZ is only an early example of racism gone amuck. Thank you for your thoughtful and insightful question.

Actually, she wasn't the only non-white skinned person in the movie. The Winkies (the people who she enslaved) were also green. In Oz, there is a race of green people. My guess is that she was a member of their race and she grew to have so much power that she enslaved them. So no, I don't think it's racist at all. The witch wasn't as racist as white people keeping black slaves, because she was green and kept green slaves.

I remember the wicked witch being green. Who are the makers of this movie discriminating against?
Oh wait, perhaps the wicked witch is only supposed to be a wicked witch.
Shut the F*** up with your stupid questions.

It wasn't a racist movie...It's just that at the time people who weren't white had serious trouble getting roles in huge movies like the Wizard of Oz which was made in 1939. Wizard of Oz which by the way is a great movie.

Well in 1938 Hollywood, the minorities were cast in films as servants, slave laborers, or other subserviant roles, many of them racially offensive and stereotypical. The Land of Oz was free of such social maladies. If it were done today, the cast would be multi-cultural

You are reading way too much into things.
That is as bad as someone once trying to convince me that Star Wars is rascist because Luke Skywalker, farm boy, is enemies with Darth Vader, and Lucas only changed it around after people started to threaten him.
Yeah right, laughable at best.
