I just had my dishwasher and icemaker worked on, paid over $200 for the services and I had warranties on both!!! Plus I just paid like $200 to extend my warranty. It seems when something goes wrong the part, piece or problem is never covered by the warranty, but when you made the purchase they make it sound like it covers everything. I can usually get some level of satisfaction after numerous phone calls but is it too much to ask for things to work correctly or not wear out prematurely???

It's hard to buy island property in the Bahamas when you are shelling out money to people who bought insurance and warranties. Of course they are going to weasel out of it.

Lol, well, unfortunately, we live in a society where 'planned obsolesence' is the norm. Products are made and engineered to last only so long, and to require you to either repair, or replace the product. Double Knit fabric is no longer available, for example, because it lasted too long, hehehe... clothing makers use fabrics that do not withstand use as well. Automobiles could be designed to last much longer...but then they would sell fewer! The same thing applies to household appliances, hehehe.

Here is what I look for when looking at "warranties" -- how good is the reputation for quality of the manufacturer? How much is a typical repair going to cost? Is this more or less than the cost of the warranty, and finally, Would it be cheaper to replace the unit, than repair it, if something does go wrong? Read the FINE PRINT of the warranty BEFORE purchasing it....it will spell out the limitations on the warranty.
Using this criteria, I end up buying very few warranties, lol, planning to simply replace an item if it breaks down too soon...and if it breaks down very soon... I buy a different brand!
I love to point out to salespeople... "I thought this was a high quality product?? Why do I need a warranty then??" It can be quite amusing to listen to them try to argue in circles, about how it IS a high quality product, that you ARE getting a good value for your money.. BUT JUST IN CASE.....and that 'BUT' says volumes about the quality of the product.
In actuality - the sales people don't care whether the product will hold up or not... they get a commission on the warranty!

By the way, did you realize you can purchase a new ice maker kit for around $50? You didint say what the problem was with the dishwasher...but it's something to think about.

Have Fun

Extended warrenties are just a rip off and when they have the money, they are not interested in upholding their end. Go to
http://appliancequickfix.com/ to see how your appliances work and may be something simple that you can handle, but
even if you call for service, you have an idea if they are just ripping you off or not.
