Listen to the RN above. You may have sleep apnea. I was diagnosed with it 2 years ago.
Same symptoms; always tired, took frequent naps, would be watching a great football game and decide to sleep for a quarter or two.
Basically, your body is constantly waking up because you have stopped breathing. For me, it was a combination of gaining weight, turning 30 (age increases the chance of getting it), and having a big tongue. You wake up to resume breathing, and then fall back asleep, never knowing that this ever happened! This can happen several times an hour depending on how bad you have it. These constant interruptions are disturbing your sleep cycles and preventing you from getting proper REM sleep. Thus you are tired, even though you think you have had adequate sleep.
Go to the doctor, and you will undergo a sleep study. Basically you go the hospital/clinic one night and sleep there. As your sleeping, they are watching you and observing you. Half way through, they will give you a CPAP mask, which is a mask you wear that gently blows oxygen in thru your nose and mouth as you sleep. This air pressure keeps your air passages open and you sleep throughout the night. It will take time to adjust to sleeping with the mask.
But now I no longer take naps and cannot sleep without my mask. (I sound like an infomercial)
Good luck

You could be oversleeping, which sometimes make you even more tired than you were. You could also have a medical condition, such as a thyroid problem, which can make you feel very tired all the time. I used to sleep all the time like you. I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism and now take a little pill and feel much better than I used to. You can check with your doctor to be tested to see if there is a medical reason. Are you getting good sleep too or are you tossing and turning alot?

It could be that you are getting too much sleep. This can often leave you feeling groggy and in need of a nap. Do you wake up groggy or with headaches? There are also many factors that could be affecting your quality of sleep, including depression, noise (does your husband snore? do you have small children who you might unconsciously be listening for in case they wake up?), being too hot or cold, lack of exercise, or a disorder like sleep apnea. If you cannot identify any environmental cause, you should see your doctor to be checked out for possible ailments.

try changing your food choices and try eating more frequently in small doses throughout the day. start becoming a water addict and maybe the next time you will eat, you will eat something less heavy, in a smaller portion.
usually the heavier foods in larger portions create feeling sluggish and sleepy (i.e., pasta, rice, fried foods, etc)... if you eat a large salad with dark leefy greans, with grilled protein like fish, or chicken, and drink a TON of water, you should be ok.
Hint: Apples also wake you up when you are falling asleep. They sometimes work better than coffee.

Maybe you're sleeping too much. The more often you sleep the more tired you are. It's kind of weird, but it's true. I sleep about 7-8 hours each night and I have plenty of energy.

whenever I hear these symptoms the first thing that pops into my head is sleep apnea. You need to discuss a sleep study with your doctor asap.
