This year i was a sophomore. In my english class (honors) it was a 1yr course. i came into the honors english in the 2nd semester knowing nothing about taking the english regents. I worked my behind off and went to tutoring everyday this teacher had it. and Guess what?? i got an 86. 85 and above goes into AP english. My teacher did not put me in it because she said my writing skills arent up to par. like what in the world is she talking about?? i got an 86 on the english regents. how could my writing not be up to par.

Now the part that mess me up is that my global teacher is putting me into Ap american his. History and English go hand and hand. If your in Ap History you are in AP english. Since im not going into Ap english and going into honors english next yr. my guidance counselor is going to take me out of AP History and into Honors History.

Isnt that some bullcrap?? what should i do? talk to the principal? maybe superintendent?? i deserve to be into that AP english class.

You're obviously a very motivated student, you've worked hard and you really want this -- and you deserve it! You have the summer to work on your writing skills. Nothing's written in stone, and you won't actually be in the class until the Fall.

My advice to you would be to write a lot this summer. Keep a diary. Write some short articles. Write letters to friends. Make sure everything you write follows the correct rules of grammar. Match subjects, verbs and cases. Review the parts of speech. Google "grammar lessons" -- there are a bunch of sites with free grammar advice.

Read over and edit everything you write this summer, including letters and questions you post on Yahoo! Answers. Keep a diary. Read a lot of good books -- they don't have to be long books, just well-written. Reading magazines is good, too. Read from various genres. The reading is essential to get the rhythm of the written language. You have a tendency to write with the cadence of spoken English, and English teachers frown on that.

If you're bored with the rules and want to play with language a bit, write some poetry -- but keep in mind that good poetry nods to the rules even while breaking them.

Start writing a letter now to give to this teacher at the end of the summer. The letter will prove your point that you should be in this AP English class, and once you've proven that point, AP History goes with it. Make your argument clear and convincing, and whatever you do, make sure it's well-written! Run it by people you know for advice and correction. If the letter is not enough, show her some of the work you've done over the summer.

Once you get into the AP course, continue reading, proofreading and editing your work. Good writing is mostly re-writing.

Good luck!!!

Yes, you need to go to the "higher ups" on this situation. Especially since you passed the test. Take your test scores, class tests, and other graded exercises to the principal and complain. If your grades are good, then you should be advancing to the next class level.

Based on your grammar and punctuation in this paragraph, you need another year in Basic English. Spelling errors. Tense errors. Punctuation errors. 'Your' for 'you are'... 'Into' instead of 'in'? Not too good, kiddo!
