Recently my car showed signs of a bad alternator, so when changed the car (when jumped would run fine....untill i turn on the headlights then it dies.....Im baffled....

No big mystery here. Just need to have a proper AVR check. What that will do is check the starting, charging, and battery condition of your car. By the sounds of it the battery or a battery connection problem would be my first look. These cars were famous for rusted grounds at the battery area and under on the sub-frame of the battery. There are three or four of these grounds on the sub-frame just below the battery and if they are open or have a large resistance, they will be taking all the produced power from the alt. when it is running. The same can be said of a battery internal problem. All this can be determined very quickly with the AVR check. Good luck.
