Of course it is!

It's the perfect wedge issue for republican presidential candidates... It allows them to still run on a platform of hate (and it's still a hatred of brown people... how convenient!) while distancing themselves from Bush and never having to mention how poorly Iraq is going (or how they stand on the issue) and the fact that our "war on terror" is actually proven to escalate terrorism and create terrorists.

hysteria.... If you remember Americans were not to see the bill until it was passed... Not wanting Amnesty ,again, is not hysteria its our right ... Also distraction from what , besides Bush, who has always wanted it (look at the last immigration bill he tried to pass) the majority of other vocal supporters were Democrats....

Just give them amnesty already and focus on tighter border control! We need to get back to the more important issues at hand like our executive running amok and the Iraq War debacle.

Just like the "gay marriage" deal, it's totally a wedge issue.

Yes. Throughout our history, people with insecurities have used immigrants as their scapegoat. Today people with little education and petty attachments to the past blame immigrants for changing American society.

No its a real issue with real problems, and you are also assuming that the public is a collective of morons who just run where we are told. We know what is going on and we are aware of the problems of this nation, thus the push from the people to stop this horrible bill

No. This whole illegal / immigration issue is one gigantic failure by the federal gov't, in every way.

What's the point of having a country with borders, if you can't even regulate who is permitted in?

As a society, we should decide what we want our immigration policies to be, and they should be carried out by the gov't.

Yes. When in doubt, use those "nasty illegals" as a scapegoat for those ills for which there is no clear answer. It's the lazy, apathetic, un-informed American way.

It's all about scaring people into accepting a national ID card. Soon we will all be required to have RFID chips in our bodies.
