So - I wait for a whole year and just can't wait till it's time to get out of work and take a vacation...
I plan my holiday...
And just days before it, I find that others have already had it all planned for me!

Nancy is getting married and has booked three days of my life, for her wedding party, wedding dinner, and another wedding gathering.

Sarah is getting married too - and has booked the next three days of my life for the same celebrations...

There is this very important social gathering which "you must come to and cannot miss" on the next day...

"We are coming to visit you on this day since you're off". (a group of more than ten)

"We are coming to visit you on this day since you're off". (another group)

In other words, spend all day preparing dinner...

And the list just goes on!!!

Alarm, alram - vacation over! Time to go back to work.

Anything you can say that will help me or at least make me feel better?

Hey, don't get me wrong...
I love people, and I love being there for them to share their joys and I do want to be there for them on their special days... it's just that "my whole vacation has already been planned by people other than myself and I just don't have time to rest and get all the hanging errands done".

Hey you have to take care of #1 first if it's your vacation I would say thanks a lot for planning all of this for me but listen I have things that must do for myself and I don't get another vacation for quite a while. I know you want to be there for your friends but you can't burn yourself trying to make everyone else happy in the mean time forgetting about you.

Yeahhhh, tell me about it!

It happens to me on work/study days + vacation. I end up being behind in everything just like lazy people who don't do anything... but to me, it's not my fault.... tooooooo many social commitments.

I wish I had a magical formula that would solve this problem... because it's an everlasting one.

Only solution. Try to balance. For the 'individual' attend a certain social engagement and skip many ;)

At times, you'll have to put (others) first even if you hated it, at other times put yourself first and last... i mean, put yourself only on the list :P

Just say NO, You have worked hard all year and look forward to this vacation. Kindly bow out and tell them you have other commitments. Otherwise the next year will be miserable without the cool down and relaxation time. If they are true friends, they will understand.

Just go do what you planned, and enjoy it. Go to the wedding ceremonies and reception if you want.
