Many fish will "spit out" the food and then eat it again. Its kind of like chewing. Those are good balanced flakes. I would also try feeding them a veriety of foods. This will allow you to switch diets if you need too. Both convicts and barbs will eat food off the bottom so unless you see there is lots of food left on the bottom I would not worry about it. Good luck!

My Gourami does this sometimes, I think he doesn't immediately like the taste, so he spits it out, but a couple seconds later, he comes back and eats it. Watch to see if your fish just let the food fall to the bottom, you may need to get different food as everyone else suggested. Use frozen bloodworms or other meaty foods, but only occasionally because fish may refuse to eat flake food if you give them treats too often (just like kids). Good luck!

That is strange as these two are normally not picky eaters. I would check with whomever you bought them from and see what they fed them. It's very possible that they have been fed live food most of their life and are used to it. In which case your best bet might be a frozen food. I would keep up on your water changes and try the flake for a little while longer. You didn't mention how long they have been refusing this food or how long you have had them, but eventually they will cave and eat something, unless they are sick.

Fish do that a lot. It's nothing critical. They're eager to eat and just grab too much that they can't swallow it all, so they spit most of it back out. But they're eating, don't worry.

Flakes go rancid with in a week. Use better food, flakes are the bottom of the barrel when it comes to quality. Pellets and frozen foods are superior.

it is because the fish are making the food small to be able to swallow the food so what you need to do is crunch it up a little so the fish can eat it better.

Maybe you have the wrong food and then you should change it. I asked people at Petsmart about it and they recommended a different food. Other then that you should just pour a pinch and walk away.
