The S.Ct. came very close to eliminating affirmative action today. Kennedy (the new O'Connor) came out in favor of racial discrimination to achieve "diversity" in schools - otherwise, AA would have been toast. We're one justice away from restoring the idea that the Constitution prohibits racial discrimination in favor of ANY race.

I tend to favor this, yet the laws must be reinforced punishing bigotry in the workplace and in government, the two largest forces in our country save religion.
I am for people having the right to their own opinions. Be as bigoted as you like. However, when you base your actions in business or government on the color of our skin, it is unjust and affects more than just you and that one person.

AA now represents "special rights for special groups". It served it's purpose.

But we must NEVER forget what that purpose was, nor slide back into the stench of society-wide bigotry and racism. This must not be a step backward.

I would hope that no one is so isolated and uneducated to think that there is no more bigotry or racism in our society. The battle isn't over. It's just changing focus.

The democrats thank all those who've taken on the fight for equal rights. This has been an effort we started, but the world has carried forward. Thank you.
