I'm for, because men can be victim of sexism

I am against. This quote from another user says it all: "I think Women's Studies are necessary for precisely the reasons you've listed: man is considered the default gender. People take issue with a 'Women's Studies' major, etc., but not with the 'anthro' or 'his' studies because, as de Beauvoir put it 'Men are considered both the positive and the neutral, while women are considered only the negative'. Removing the 'negative' gender notation from 'Women's Studies' and replacing it with the 'neutral' 'Gender' while leaving the 'positive' notation in 'anthro'pology and 'his'tory wouldn't do us any good in achieving neutrality - because it would only reaffirm the male as both 'neutral' and polar... and thus it would also reaffirm the female as solely polar. That would do nothing to aid the cause for androgyny/gender neutrality in our society."

Sure.
I think the most recent change has only increased the number of requests for a Men's Studies.

I'm OK with talking about men's issue in this category, I favor the neutral title Gender Studies, but if you want a separate category that's fine, too.

I wonder of Yahoo thinks that adding a separate category would decrease the volume of activity in this category??

I'm all for it. You know how everyone is always complaining about not understanding women??? well, I don't understand men, so I think its a great idea. But i don't know if you noticed it or not, but they actually changed "women's studies" to "gender and women's studies". I think that's a step in the right direction!!!

I am against sexism in any form. And I am against discrimination. Why do females always want their cake and eat it?
Answers is for everyone and anyone can answer any question, so why the need for separate groups for different genders?
Sounds like stupid PC to me.

I'm for it. We have general categories here and it is just silly to think that there are no issues unique to men. That said, I think that both men and women should be able to contribute their thoughts/knowledge in a "men's studies" category, just as I appreciate the opinions/knowledge of men in categories dealing with women's issues.

I thought there was one, but seeing as there isn't i think there should be one. Since men may face issues in which a 'men's studies' section could be very helpful. I am sorry to see there isn't one, and i hope there is in the future.

Gender studies would be better. Hopefully it would put an end to the tireless questions by men about breast size and how whether women wear tights or stockings.
Bloody hell, our lives revolve around more than that.

Absolutely!! I am a male nurse at the moment, and believe me, sexism is alive and well and perpertrated by women!

And I am happy to explain this if anyone wants further information?

Yes definitely! I think it's unfair & sexist to have a category just for 'womens issues' & not have the same for men. And before all the feminists out there start squeeling that men don't have their own 'male' issues, or that its only women who are treated unfairly in society.... please lets not even go there!! It works both ways.

Gee, I disappear for a few days and suddenly Y!A decides "gender" is more appropriate, though i must say my initial reaction to this new change, "Gender & Women's Studies" pissed me off.

1. is this to assume that women are not included in the term "gender"
2. Pick one, either go with "Men's &Women's Studies"
OR "gender" studies, can't do both.

I still think its discriminating, but now for new reasons, thanks for nothing Y!A!!!!
