Or are we helping to train security forces and stabilize a new democracy? If we are at war, who are we fighting? I ask because I am told to not question things because we are at war...

so, since we are at war forever and ever, should we just get rid of our constitution, since it can't be held up during times of war?

Kelsey, your condesceding tomes and remarks do not make your opinion correct. I suggest you read up ojn the past 6 years and what the definition of war is, and then come back and try again. Thanks. little one.

It is absolutely OK to question anything that you wish to question, our men and women in the armed forces are securing that right as we speak. Are we at war? I'm not quite sure. You could technically call it a war, but we are facing what amounts to guerrilla warfare where the rules of combat (oxymoron) do not apply. I believe we are fighting a variety of enemies in this conflict, although I'm not expert. The Arab nations seem to be supporting any group that is willing to go to Iraq and do our armed forces harm.

The sad thing is that we are now at war with ourselves politically and in terms of idealogy and 911 and the Iraq war has only made it worse. We are becomming more divided and polarized and that ultimately cannot be good for America. We are at war for the very soul of our nation and for what we stand for. We have always been a beacon to the world and yet when I read some of these blogs filled with such vile and perpetual misunderstanding I wonder where we are headed as a society and as a nation.
America does not belong to a particular group or point of view. It belongs to principles like liberty, freedom, acceptance and yes... even tolerance.
BTW: I will always firmly oppose anyone who paints an entire group one way with a broad brush. All Arabs did not attack us so why is it that they are ALL bad and evil. That is not what America stands for. We need to be better than that and become more balanced in our thoughts and words.

We are at war but not a normal war were you can kill your enemy and he doesnt come back. We are fighting an idea and a idea always win. They are based on emotion the more we fight the more we fuel their emotion of anger and hate to us so we fuel their attacks. For every terrorist we attack two more rise to their cause. Its like us americans against the british we had the idea of freedom and you cant fight ideas with bullets you must use a voice i say calm their anger or kill all of them no one is innocent im sorry to say but we all do evil and them not fighting the evil makes them almost as bad as the terrorist. I say dismantle all our goverments and unite in peace then we can all be happy i no it sounds pacifist but peace might work if not kill everyone of them

War has not been declared, so in that sense, we are not at war.
OTOH, the peoples of other countries are actively making war on us, however limitted and ineffectual they may be in doing so.
The Iraq war is in a guerilla phase, in which both sides can 'avoid losing' as long as they can maintain the will to fight, but neither side can 'win.'
Questioning things is fine, even in war time, but some questions simply can't be answered. And, "bring the troops home now!" isn't a question - it's a demand that we willfully lose the 'war.' That's the sort of thing that's usually criticized, because, like I said, you can't win a guerilla war - but you /can/ lose it.

If you don't know the answer to that question, you've been living in a box for the past 6 years.
Yes, my dear, we are at war. We are at war with radical Islamic insurgents who hate Americans, Christians, and Jews, not to mention those that don't agree with them. Basically we are at war with the people that want to blow our brains out because of our heritage.
At the same time we're trying to set up democratic governments in Iraq and Afghanistan.
And if you're told not to question things, your rights are seriously being oppressed.
Edit: And of course we are at war mainly for oil. If Iraq had cut off our oil supply, we would be in some serious trouble. It was more to protect our oil trading than to take it over.
Condesending tones? I am sorry. It's just how it looks.
And I think I would know about war more than most of y'all. I live on a friggin' Army base. I am literally surrounded by people who go to war. My dad went to war (Afghanistan). All three of my best friends' dads have gone to war (Iraq and Afghanistan). I am more familiar with war than you would like to be.

Yes we are a war. Like all wars this one comes with a price. Unless we remain diligent great harm will befall upon our mothers, fathers, sisters, and brothers. The war will continued until all the crazy Arabs give up or they are killed. In either case this struggle will continue for our children to pick up. Until we can convince Arabs its not right to put suicide bombs on their children and bags over their women's heads the struggle against craziness will continue. Ask questions we all should but remember there really are a lot of nuts out there that want so see your brains splattered over the street.

Yes we are at war. George Bush used scare tactics (terrorism) as a reason to start a war. But he has his own agenda.
