Committment is a feeling between two people whether they married or not. I don't think religion has anything to do with it. When partners cheat they have enough to deal with, without there being some religious or moral meaning attached to it. When my husband cheated on me it became larger than life because I thought he had committed a sin or broken some commandment. But we are buddhist, and all that religious thinking comes from growing up in Christian society. In reality, people are free to do whatever they want. They can stray or not, forgive or not. Everything is governed by the law of cause and effect. Your judgement as an outsider is irrelevent.

Not exactly a question but thought the topic would be a good one for discussion. This site is also for posting opinions is it not?

I don't think cheating is OK, I just don't think its a religious issue. Its a moral/ethical issue between two committed individuals.

Thick Madam...you called me three offensive names yet you probably consider yourself "a good Christian". Who's really the dumb one here? Afraid of a differing opinion?

Its a "feeling" that translates into or directs your actions.

Your thoughts are most refreshing, but I fear that they will go on deaf ears. It seems the so called "moral majority" fear anything that questions their faith including logic. However, it is nice to know you are out there and I wish peace and happiness.

P.S.
I also agree with you.

i agree with you on many things. I myself do not wish to get married because i don't believe the authority of the law is needed in my life for this purpose - i can love someone and not be married to them. I don't need to spend all that money and swear my commitment in front of a priest! Furthermore, I feel that marriage is the tomb of love - one starts to feel trapped and everything starts to change. However, may i correct you by saying that it is not solely Christian culture that nurtures these morals. If you look into Islam for example, you will be shocked at how much marriage counts institutionally in their lives. BUT i REALLY DON'T AGREE with how you think it's okay for the person you love to go fornicating around with other people. Yeah we're free to do what we want but GET REAL GIRL is that even love? Here's one of my principles: WHEN THE CHEATING STARTS THE LOVE'S OVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"Commitment" isn't a feeling, it's an action, it's a moral code of behavior, it's vowing to keep promises.
Your cheating husband broke his vows, so his word as a husband and a man is meaningless. Perhaps if his sense of commitment was stronger, or he had "some religious or moral meaning attached to it", he would have known to keep his promise to be faithful.

Aha! So this is where the morals of our society start to unravel! You let him do this to you? Yes God gives us the freedom of thought and yes again, I'm not your judge, God is. But He gives us His Laws to live by and with those laws infidelity is considered immoral and He judges us and it breaks our heart when it happens to us. Did it hurt you? Sure we learn to forgive just like God does, that's what he teaches. Please don't attack us Christians without knowing us.
