Isn't it all a matter of perspective? When vacationing to foreign beaches, who is more likely to be sunbathing nude? Drugs that are illegal here are legal in some European countries. Even the legal age for consensual sex is lower in Europe. The consumption of wine during dinner is another good example. Enlightened, sophisticated or morally void? Whatever floats your boat, but, when you're over there, staring at it, I bet you wouldn't say anything. I know I wouldn't.

I would say on a whole yes.
I live in the US (Oakland) and thought the bay area was the most liberal and progressive thinking area of the country...but we have nothing on Europe.
I just came back from spending time in Germany and made stops in the Netherlands, Poland, and the Czech Republic. As a whole people are more educated and "worldly" and polite, the kids were more well behaved, just everything was better (roads, access to art, airports, education, 6 weeks of paid vacation, health care, support to parents/families, etc) I think because they think and live different they have produced lives and a countries that in many respects are superior to the US.
We helped the majority of Europe rebuild after WW2 and I think they used our help as a starting point but improved upon it.
I love Germany its an awesome country!!!!

No, it definitely isn't as simple as this. For instance, while I admire and envy the European ethic on health care as a human right, I condemn European ghettoizing and ostracizing immigrant communities and believe the US has that one down much better than the Europeans do (yes, even with all the bile on the current immigration bill in the US).

Yes, They have a news media that fights for justice and reports injustices. Ours only reports that which will benefit them and the Big Business's that pay for the control 90% neocon 10% progressive in this country. Ohio does not have 1 progressive talk radio program. No wonder their voice was stolen from them during the last election.

When it comes to Government and politics they sure have more experience. America is like a young teenager compared to Europe. Enlightened? Totally different thing.

Nationallity does not determine your "enlightenment" but rather your education & pursuit of truth & justice. All nations have such people including Europe & the United States.

It depends of what exactly you mean :)
In general, an average German or dutch,,,and so on, is more aware of life in America than vice versa :)
On the other hand, stupidity and ignorance don't know the borders.

In their own eyes maybe. There are more Christians in America, so in the things that really count, I would say we are smarter.
