We live in England and have found a couple of massive spiders in the shed. We have never seen any like these before. Very big bodies, hairy. Does anyone know what type of spiders they might be and can they bite?

I don't like spiders either. I would just go for it and remove them safely. After all its only a few seconds of being scared. If your really worried then i would contact the RSPCA , just to be safe in case they are exotic species and could be venomous.

All spiders can bite but you wouldn't even feel a small one having a chomp at you. It is how they kill their food - by injecting a small amount of venom into their prey which paralyses it. They can then wrap it up in silk and save it for later, still fresh. Most spiders have some hair but it is usually only noticeable on the bigger ones.

Yours could be Garden Spiders (Araneus diadematus) or, as they are living in the shed, possibly House Spiders (Tegenaria domestica). If they are real monsters they could be Araneus quadratus (they don't seem to have a common name) who can have a body length of up to 20mm - they like gardens.

If a native, large spider manages to bite you, which is extremely rare and unlikely, it can swell up and be quite sore for a few days. Always get it checked out with the doc in case you have a bad reaction.

Probably large house spiders (the ones with hobnail boots which clump around in the roof when you are trying to sleep!)
If they are around the size of your hand they are probably tarantulas! Or bird-eating spiders!! Unlikely or you would be heading in the direction of Lands End and not bothering to ask on YA.
It is unlikely that they will bite and equally unlikely that if they did you would suffer any ill effects. Large lady garden spiders (the ones with the cylindrical webs and pretty patterns on their backs)can give quite a nip I've been told.

It will be too cold in your shed for any exotic venomous spiders.

If you don't want to handle them, try leaving your shed door open at dawn and the birds will eat them for breakfast.

Probably garden spiders (as they are outside) and no they, don't bite. Leave them be, they'll eat all the other insects in your shed!

Is it gold or yellow? That would be a Golden Garden Spider, very effective predator, non venomous. All jumping spiders are nonvenomous to humans.

Yes they can bite, and you suffer with paralysis, And then the Spider weaves a silken web around you, then puts you in its larder, to eat you at a later date.------------------boo
