Someone i know likes to drink hot coffee in the hot summer days (temperatues like 40 deg celcuis).....He tells me he does it to keep his body temperature up to equal surroundings because it makes him feel more relaxed and good....I personally think it is a conditioned response due to his drinking coffee so much that he enjoys the feeling and response (like a comfort blanket) but he insists it is scientific....I figure everyone would perfer a cold drink to bring there temperature down because it makes them feel good

Your friend must think that humans work like reptiles--which have body temperatures roughly equal to ambient temperature. Human bodies don't work that way. Your friend may feel good from drinking a hot drink in hot weather, but his reasoning is a bunch of hot air.

The human body attempts to maintain a temperature of 37 C at all times, so the any time the ambient temperature is 37 C or greater, drinking a hot beverage would trigger a response in the body's cooling mechanism, which is sweating and dilation of capillaries in the skin. This might feel very good in hot weather because the beverage at 40 C can trick the body into responding as if it were overheated, making the cooling response much more intense than would occur if a person were not drinking a hot beverage. However, if a person is already hot and sweaty, a hot drink will only make them hotter.

Sounds like my dad! Don't know of any scientific evidence...I think they just love their coffee.
