Supposedly it shapes your personality, i.e. your parents would want to name you after someone who was wise, strong, not pushed around, so that you will inherit those qualities from your name's sake.

Russians have a very good proverb: "Как вы яхту назовете, так она и поплывет", what means that name defines the quality of life's course. I've read that man's name defines man's fate, but not only name but date of birth and other. How to select name - there's a lot of specified literature, seek in net.

It plays. Your name determines you somehow. An example from my part:
I always react when I hear someone has an ugly name. I got an impression their parents do not have a taste at all, so logically the holder of the name inherited their taste. or maybe he or she comes from a traditional family, so he or she has to hold the awful grandfather or grand mother name.

Names are important as each name, in the general nature of all things, represents specific characteristics of a person , place or a thing that is given that name. All living things, apart from human beings, use things themselves as their names; if, for instance, a tree is to write its name somewhere it will have to be present there by itself, as its name - I still find very difficult to know the name of many trees and numerous flowers when I see them in the wild, and I still wish that the name of each tree would grow as a natural print on each leaf, but I also know that this will be outrageous and ridiculous, but it would be nice if flowers would be able to speak out their beautiful name along with the wafts of their peculiar fragrance....

Anyway, to know things by their verbal sounds, the sounds that we humans produce by the movements of our tongue in mouth, is a human need. It is, therefore, very important for all human beings to have names, and also to give names to all things that are included in the body of their personal knowledge; nothing can be known without a name.

Is my name is important? Yes, it is. As it is known by me. :)

That's a pretty good question. One's name easily reveals one's cultural background and occasionally a story which wishes to be remembered. Easily this makes one's life susceptible to racism and privileges for the former, and gives one a direction right after birth for the latter. Perhaps from this view it is possible for one's name to affect one's life.

hope this helps=)

Well I am thinking of changing my wifes name to one I've heard a lot recently, Osama Bin Laden, it has an air of intregue about it, plus I've heard that those lovely chaps in the FBI have placed a $25,000,000 bounty dead or alive for Osama's capture, so I change her name, get her driving licence changed, chop the winging old bag up, hand the pieces to the FBI, get me hands on the wongo, then its bevy of hookers here I come !!!

"Because it is my name! Because I cannot have another in my life! Because I lie and sign myself to lies! Because I am not worth the dust on the feet of them that hang! How may I live without my name? I have given you my soul; leave me my name!"

if you believe in numerology then yes..Shakespeare contemplates destiny in names in Romeo and Juliet....where art thou romeo..a rose by any other name would smell as sweet.
wherefore does not mean where..it means why are you called
