OK, so I am moving in about a month. I have lived in the same apartment for five years, and have collected a lot of "stuff." I want the move to be smooth, so I ask - those of you have moved recently, (or not so recently) what advice do you offer? How can I make things go easier? Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Start sorting now. If you haven't used it, toss it. Collect boxes from stores and buy some good packing tape and a permanent marker. Pack up what you can now and mark the room it will go to in the new place. This saves questions when moving. When you put it on the truck while moving, put the rooms boxes together so people aren't running all over the place. The day before the move, set aside the things you will need on moving day such as cookware and personal items. You can also set out and seperate by room, the boxes nearer to the door you will be using for exiting. This also saves lots of steps moving day.

Pack what you don't often use first., and pack what you use most last. Unpack what you use first. Pack one room at a time. Label all boxes and pack like items together. When moving, put the labeled boxes in the corresponding room.

Keep a trash bag handy while packing. Throw away anything you haven't used in a year (especially good when sorting through clothing). Donate what you can.
