A patent is issued for a process. You have to describe the process, what makes it unique, and adequately explain this to the US Patent Office (if you're wanting a patent in the United States).
A patent examiner will examine your application, and if she agrees with you that your process is unique, you'll be awarded a patent.
This is a very time-consuming and complicated process, and one that should not be undertaken without the help of an intellectual property attorney. It's also rather expensive, so it's a good idea to get an attorney so that you don't waste your money.

You need to buy a book at BORDERS on Patents and don't tell a soul. NEVER pay for help online, never share your idea online. It will require a lot of skills in description of your idea, and drawing it for the patent. Good Luck. I hope you have a clothing idea that i will use one day.

Contact the US Patent Office and ask for a brochure giving guidelines for attaining a patent.
Good Luck, it is neither easy nor inexpensive to obtain a patent, and then you have to sell your idea to a manufacturer.

First you would need to write to the copywrite office in DC. Ask for a form-fill it out and send a copy of your idea to them for copywrite and patent.
you may want to talk to a copywrite lawyer because you got to do reserach to see if your idea was never thought of before
I have listed a few website that will give you more information.

look in the telephone e book for a patent criminal professional. he can do seek to be certain if there any comparable ones already patented. this section is inexpensive and it dates your invention in case somebody tries to pre-empt you.
