i just think of sth else at the time and act like i'm listening to them!!

It's not easy.
If at all possible, I try to put myself somewhere away from them. Polite excuses at work can often help.
If I must be around them (but not necessarily interact with them), then I simply ignore them by mentally focusing on something else: either work, or something fun. Music helps.
If the person is actively making themselves the center of attention, then I must more actively work to avoid them.
Generally, giving the appearance of being intensely focused on something (whether you really are or not) is suffcient to ward off the annoying.
Tyr to look as though you are focused and concentrating very hard on some task or endeavor. The annoying person will generally seek out someone else to pay attention to them.

Remember that everyone is crazy. Trying to get to the bottom of somebodies craziness will drive you crazy. Just keep telling yourself: this chic is crazy. And why let something a crazy person says get on your nerves right?

I stare at an object in the room. I focus on as many details as possible and eventually I'll be in my own little world.

in my mind, I think of something that I care a lot about or something that matters. I may even "dream up" outfits in my mind and think things like "what should i do this weekend/ how will i do my hair/ maybe i'll call pete in a while". just think random hapy thoughts in your mind until they're done. sometimes, i cuss them out in my head and i pretend they can hear every word of it.

I just convince myself in my head that they don't really bother me and that if I just smile at them it is going to irritate them even more than if I get mad and let them bother me so i just smile and really tick them off! I say nothing to them with a big smile on my face.......

hahaha....easily.....i discreetly turn the hearing aid to the off position, but continue to nod my head in a disinterested sort of way......whilst watching the beautiful lady walking behind them !
