Cleopatra was an olive skinned woman, with an aquiline nose. Yes, she was what is considered caucasian, white, as are Greeks and Italians (two other olive skinned people) today. She was the last of the line that descended from Ptolemy, who was Macedonian Greek. Ptolemy, originally a general in the Army of Alexander the Great, founded the Ptolemaic Dynasty in Egypt. Cleopatra VII, the one we all recognize, was the last of the dynasty.

Cleopatra was indeed of Macedonian descent. The idea that she was "black" - if you are into that whole race concept - comes from a bogus history written years ago and resurrected recently for socio-political reasons. It has no basis in history.
The sad part about the claim that Cleopatra was "black" is that it distracts from what is known about Egypt at that time, namely that there were people of sub-Saharan African descent (which is to say, "black") at the highest levels of Egyptian government. Black Africans indeed were among those who wielded great power in Egypt. Cleopatra, however, was not one of them.

Cleopatra belonged to a royal dynasty that came to Egypt as followers of Alexander the Great. Therefore they were of Macedonian and Greek descent and white. By the way: Then and today the vast majority of people in Egypt were / are not black but their skin was / is a more or less light brown.

After Alexander The Great death, his empire was divided among his generals: Seleuco received Persia and Middle East; Casandro Macedonia and Ptolomeo Egypt.

Cleopatra -the last queen of Egypt- was a descendant of the first Ptolomeo; so her origin was Macedonian, then she was white.

I agree with Mai Ling. Cleopatra was a descendant of the Greeks (actually Macedonians) who conquered Egypt. It was customary for royal brothers and sisters to marry in order to keep the blood pure, they did not know about hereditary diseases. Cleopatra was 100% European and white.

She was of Greek decent, from the Ptolemaic dynasty.
However, we don't know who her mother or grandmother were, so there is a possibility she may have been of mixed race. Nubian's (modern Sudan) could rise to prominence in Egypt so it's not too long a stretch of the imagination.

I'm assuming you're saying African American? Nonetheless, how could she have been African American when America was thousands of years from being discovered? Try Egyptian.
