Its sad that people are willing to kill for and die for their 'freedom' and yet are willing participants in the slavery of everyday life. We are chained to the notion that we have to have this and we have to have that and we have to work X number of hours to get it.

We don't have to participate in this illusion if we don't want to. Just step off the treadmill and sit still for a while and think about, I mean really think about what is important in your life. Do you really need all those useless consumer goodies?

What do you really need in life? What really makes you happy? Don't just take the stock answers - find your own answers, and then go out into the world a new person and do it!

There are many good suggestions posted already, though if you do choose to have a job I wouldn't recommend showing up late - that's disrespectful. You can be an iconoclast (break down the existing illusions) and be compassionate at the same time.

It may sound simple but it's true. Do something different everyday. If you go to work the same way each morning than find another way to go. If you eat the same thing or the same place do it differently. Read something that you would never think that you'd enjoy and do it with an open mind. Buy some thing in a color that you would never think that you could wear. Try making a cuisine that you'd never tried before for dinner.
If you've never seen a foreign movie go to see one. Read the auto-biography or biography of someone of a different race, religion or sexual orientation. Hope that helps you.

Its easy to get into a routine - and often that routine is very comfortable. But it can also be stifling!

Decide to do something different. When a Friend calls and says Let's go out for lunch!" Don't say, "I brought my lunch." Just do it! That Nike slogan has helped me.

Maybe try something you never thought you could. When a friend suggested starting painting, I thought I could never do it but I tried. And its fun!

Do something different today. Maybe its small such as parking at the other end side of the mall parking lot. Maybe you can bike to work, take piano lessons, color your hair Red (my fav).

Try something new and and have fun!

Do something crazy and completely outside your comfort zone. Example: purposefully get to work a few minutes late; wear big orange rain boots with your outfit. It should open up the doors to different possibilities. Life's too short, so just do it!

Go out and do something spontaneous and crazy for the day. Instead of going to work tomorrow just call in sick and do something fun that you've always wanted to try, like bungee jumping.

you got a schedule right? wake up, shower, eat, go to work, come home, clean house, pay bills that kind of thing right? well, i'm sure there's an hour or two in there where you watch your favorite tv show or read a book or something. well, that time is your time. go to dinner with a group of friends in that time. sometimes you have to schedule spontaneity.

Pick one thing that SCARES you -- and go DO it. As soon as possible. Do that at least once per week. Find something new to LEARN each day. Pick a really HARD question on this site -- and research the answer.

Ditch work/school. Then go to the museum. Go to the soup kitchen. Take a joyride on a train. Go parasailing. Sleep.

Try to think of everyone at work as characters in a t.v. show or a comic book. If they are boring people, exagerate their personality traits in your mind. They will seem much more interesting that way.
