This can be caused by a great number of issues.

Simple perception can cause you to think it is freezing when really you're just reaching the edge of your mousepad ;)

If you have a wireless mouse, check the batteries.

If it is a USB mouse, try switching it to a different USB controller, IE if it's plugged into the back of your computer, try plugging it into the front.

Try also someone else's mouse to determine if it is indeed YOUR mouse that is having the problems.

As well generally the higher the DPI of an optical mouse, the better performance you will get, but make sure to read reviews before purchasing one. Also, don't go cheap on optical or laser mice; if they're cheap, they're cheap for a reason.

Try also a different mouse pad or just place your mouse on a different surface.

If none of this works, you may want to look at upgrading your memory or hard drive. Disk access caused by paging (when you run out of real memory) can cause your system to freeze up for a moment while something is loading.

Hi, without more information on your mouse or pointing device I can do too much. But the standard advice would be

1. update any drivers for your device.
2. Use Msconfig to disable any services you don't need when playing games
3. Check your RAM for errors
4. If you have less than 512mb and you are using Windows XP put in more RAM and Vista seems to need a gig to operate.

Your pc is probably out of windows resources or application memory to run games then upgrade RAM, 2GB for vista and 1GB for XP or increase your virtual memory or page files(swap files) or terminate some unwanted programs running.

*If system freezes then mouse cursor or other input devices like keyboard typing also freezes or slows down usually.

your computer may be to slow for game your playing. You can downgrade resolution and background stuff for the game. I'm guessing your talking about a real game, and not a flash game or internet game.
This is usually do to video card, ram, or processor.
