You know of all the reading and warnings I did while PG. That always seemed to be non specific. Reading something like too much caffeine or artificial sweetner MAY cause certain types of birth defects. What does that mean!!!!!
I limited to 1 or 2 diet cokes a day and a cup of coffee in the a.m. and my daughter turned out fine.

if you are only drinking 1-2 drinks a day it will do nothing to harm the baby....in early pregnancy i cut caffeine totaly out as well as carbonated drinks....my dr kept telling me it was okay to have 1-2 cups of coffee, tea per day but i didn't want to...now that i am 32 weeks i give in to my temptations a little more! the one thing you want to avoid are diet pops because of the aspertaime (sp??) which can do damage to an unborn baby...regular pop you need to worry about sugar consumption but 1-2 drinks a day is probably fine.....the only other thing is that caffeine deyhydrates you so make sure you drink lots of water because dehydration can lead to preterm labor.

When I hit 24wks my doctor said "No juice, no soda." (except orange juice or any juice that's not mixed w/ everything else). So I've been strictly milk and water (water 98 % of the time). I used to drink 1 bottle or can of soda a month but it would take me forever to drink it b/c it would irritate my stomach so I stopped at 24wks and I'm now 28wks and feel great. Plus I have to get my glucose tested tomorrow and I don't want to take any chances on me or my baby by getting too much junk in my body.

check out this website. it explains everything
"Numerous studies have examined the effects of caffeine intake on fertility and pregnancy. Most studies found that moderate caffeine intake does not affect fertility or increase the chance of having a miscarriage or a baby with birth defects; some studies did find a relationship between caffeine intake and fertility or miscarriages."

i've never heard anything bad about carbonated drinks as long as there is no caffeine. But I know caffeine can cause a miscarriage and possibly birth defects if you have too much during pregnancy!

They say caffeine causes misscarriages. I never heard of carbonated drinks affecting the baby at all. I drank sierra mist through my whole pregnancy and my daughter is just fine. Although I used to drink diet...and I had to switch to regular soda because aspartame can cause birth defects. So make sure you don't drink anything diet unless it has splenda in it.
My doctor told me to limit the caffeine to 2 servings a day. Hope that helps.

My OB/GYN told me not to have more than 2 servings of caffeine a day. I'm not sure what type of effect it could have on the baby if you have to much.
