Somewhere for unruly, mouthy 12 yr old boy to go....my neighbour's 12 yr old is being soooo mouthy and disrespectful to his Mom. Many issues here, but I think best solution for summer is for Mom to have somewhere to send him for a little while. She has a 10mth old and a 6 yr old to deal with as well and big brother is NOT being nice to them either.
Any suggesstions? Please no disrespectful answers, this is serious and hence the reason I am reaching out to anyone that can help. Thanks, Sue

She is at her wits end and said that she would send him if there was somewhere to send him - right now she just tells him to go away and he takes off on his bike and she doesn't know where he is or what he is doing and frankly doesn;t care right now! Not that she is a bad parent, but she just doesn't know what to do - hubby doesn't support her (son is from a high school boyfriend - now married and two youngest are dad's - but 12 yr old calls him dad since he was 6), so this was the solution that we both thought of, only just don't know where.

I appreciate all the extra advise, but beleive me, I watch all those nanny shows too, and I agree BUT since Dad disrespects Mom and the kids follow suit, there will NOT be any resolution as long as he stays there. He is a little rough too. He pokes me in my side really hard and gets a little too rough with my 6 yr old too. He pushes the line and cannot seem to reason with him. Best thing for him would be like boot camp - something drastic to make him think. Please - any places come to mind?

Well too bad u aint in BC. I would send the kid off on a fishin boat for a bit (4 - 5 weeks). I bet that would cure some of that mouthy stuff. A lotta kids have shaped up from being sent out to work like that.

But i guess there in Ontario u should get authorities involved and have the kid put in a structured environment where discipline is emphasised. If u don't do it now tho, the kid will get worse for sure.

Or u could send him to me. I'm really sure I could take some of that attitude outta him pretty quick....not sayin u would get the kid back in one piece tho. **just kiddin**

From watching the Nanny shows on tv I have learned one thing...if a child of any age is acting out like that, there is a reason for it, and it usually lies within the home beginning with the parents. Yikes! I hate that that is true but instead of focusing on the child, observe the parents with the child. It could simply be that he isn't getting enough positive attention, or is being made to do a lot of extra chores due to the younger siblings, or if there is a step dad around who isn't interacting with him on the same level as the other kids. It also helps if you talk to the child..not at him or down on him...but TO him.

this is a serious answer. Are you familiar with "brat camp"
it is a tough love solution to unruly mouthy kids like that. They are only like that because their parents give in to it so easily.

Its hard to send them off to that kind of ambus but once the kid realizes
A) how willing his mum is to do this , and.
B) how it feels for him to complete the positive Self esteem bulding excercises he will be required to do before his return home ,

he will appreciate what he has a lot more and be a better person for it.

you're from Mississauga? this might not make any sense but check in those activity guide things you get in the mail, the ones that have the pizza pizza things on the back. they usually have a section for camps and there might be one that's right for him. (i hope u know what I'm talking about, I'm from Mississauga too...)
