Not really. Manufactured homes, like motor vehicles, only depreciate in value...ALWAYS. So while the labor your husband may put into it will be free, the time and money spent in materials for the repairs will not add any value to the home. It will make for a more comfortable living (for sure), but be prepared to lose money when it comes to sell. Unless you plan on living there forever. What it really comes down to is how much you two can afford and the location you two are most comfortable living in. Also keep in mind, rent to own properties don't always go as planned. Many times the tenants/future homeowners change their minds after experiencing what it's like living in the property for a year so. The landlord(s)/seller(s) may also change their mind, or sell to a higher bidder at the end of the lease. Not likely with a mobile home, but possible. If you two are sincerely interested in renting-to-own, my honest opinion would be that you have the lease & the contract of sale written up prior to signing, that there aren't any stipulations in the contract that would allow the owner to sell the property from under you, if possible, have the monthly rent payments count towards payment of the home, and if you're going to apply for financing, you get pre-approved *prior* to the end of the lease. Mobile home financing is a completely different ballgame than applying for a mortgage. Good luck :-)

Habitat is a good place. So are Surplus Houses. Another way is to call some cabinet shops and ask if they sell the cabinets they remove before replacing. They normally try not to do a lot of damage to them.

I have a rental, I went to Lowe's and bought the economy cabinets. I did the whole kitchen for less than $600.

Some cities (like mine) have a Habitat (for Humanity) Store..where people donate things like doors, cabinets, light fixtures, etc. and are sold cheaply, to raise money for Habitat for Humanity...you can find some EXCELLENT deals!

Your best bet is to go to a home center (like Home Depot), & purchase unfinished cabinets.

Try Ikea. You put them together, but the look more expensive than the are. Also try Home Depot. Again, you put them together, but it's not that hard and they look better then you think.
