Who are hostile but expect you to acknowlege them even though you don't like one another...how do you escape speaking to them other than just ignoring...although I don't want to say anything to them at all...

That's a tough one. Trying to make them look bad in a public situation will not help ease any of the tension... and just ignoring them makes them think they are right. The only possible way i can think of solving this is to be as charming as possible and just smile when forced to interact and when just seeing them in passing, a simple gesture like a casual wave or a head nod to show respect might help... however it has to be genuine. If its not then it'll come across wrong and just cause more tension.

You are never gonna find a sure shot solution to this... just do you best and maybe in a few cases you can break things down so there is a little mutual respect... but 9 out of 10 times its still gonna be that awkwardness you seen so far.

P.S. I was cracking up about the 1st posters solution.

Use the media.
People seem to follow any whim that comes out of a media source without verification.

Do that trick where you give them a box of dunuts to "smooth things over" then once they're finished they notice the polaroid photos of some dudes wearing those same donuts on their wangs! I dunno... good luck!
